Nagelsmann's charges put on a show in Munich

Germany kicked off Euro 2024 in spectacular fashion on Friday, hammering 10-man Scotland 5-1 in Munich to record the biggest opening day win in tournament history.

Timo Werner opened the scoring for the hosts after just four minutes, before Jamal Musiala doubled their lead midway through the first half. Scotland pulled one back through John McGinn just before the break, but Germany restored their two-goal advantage through Kai Havertz early in the second half.

Scotland's hopes of a comeback were dealt a blow when Scott McTominay was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 63rd minute. Germany took full advantage, with Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane adding further goals to seal a comfortable victory.

The win was a perfect start for Germany, who are looking to win their first European Championship since 1996. They will face Portugal in their next match on Tuesday, while Scotland will take on the Czech Republic.
